REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION
Lower Division
Application should include:
Completed, signed, and dated H.U. application for admission
by Fall Semester (April 1) or Spring Semester (November
1)
Official high school transcript or college transcript,
that shows your cumulative grade point average
Standardized test scores
Two letters of recommendation from teachers and one letter
of recommendation from your high school counselor
The Lower Division courses may be obtained
at other accredited institutions; however, the sciences must
have been completed within the last seven (7) years. Candidates
enrolled at Howard University meeting the evaluation criteria
will receive first preference in the selection process to the
upper divisional level Matriculation in the upper division is
competitive and restricted to the Fall Semester of each year.
Applicants may enter in the Fall, Spring or Summer Semesters.
No candidate will be exempt from any of the prescribed courses
in the Upper and Lower Divisions. The Admissions Committee upon
space availability may invite candidates meeting the minimum
requirements for an evaluation interview. Candidates are selected
on a competitive basis.
Transfer students must apply for admission
through the Howard University Office of Admissions. No admissions
credentials will be accepted after the published deadline. Only
courses with a grade of "C" or above will be considered for
transfer credit.
Upper Division
Evaluation application process should include:
Submit a completed application to Physician Assistant
Department at 6th & Bryant Sts., NW, Annex II Room 119
by February 1. (To download the application you need Adobe
Acrobat Reader).
Submit official transcripts directly to the H.U. P.A.
Dept.
Possess a minimum overall cumulative grade point average
(GPA) of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0
Possess a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0 in all required prerequisite
college courses with no grade below "C"
Possess a minimum 2.5 Science cum (Chemistry, Organic
Chemistry, Math, Microbiology, and Biology)
Successfully complete a minimum of 60 semester hours of
prerequisite course work
Submit three letters of professional recommendation
Submit an autobiographical sketch (3-5 pages)
Submit a statement of Reason for Professional Career Choice
(1-2 pages)
24-2000+hours of direct patient care of volunteer service
in a primary care setting.
