Mission: The mission of the Howard University Physician Assistant Program is to educate competent and compassionate primary care physician assistants. The Program is dedicated to attracting and sustaining a quality student population that includes, but is not limited to, promising Blacks and other ethnically diverse minority students committed to the provision of quality healthcare in the United States and abroad.

Educational Philosophy: The Program’s educational philosophy promotes excellence in education by instilling in our graduates attributes of medical competence, ethics, intellectual leadership qualities, and professionalism to meet the demands of direct patient care, community responsiveness and professional growth.

Goals:
  • To recruit and educate qualified and motivated Black and other ethnically diverse minority students to assume leadership roles in the PA profession.

  • To produce quality PAs, especially Black and other ethnic minorities who are competent and culturally sensitive practitioners, critical thinkers, problem solvers, active life-long learners, and effective communicators.

  • To recruit, retain, and advance a cadre of faculty members who are competent in the medical sciences, research and clinical practices deemed essential for the training and education of PAs.

  • To maximize the level of community service provided by the faculty, students, and staff that promotes and addresses minority community issues related to the promotion of health and wellness at local, national, and international levels.
