DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MISSION:
Mission:
The mission of the Howard University Physician Assistant
Program is to educate competent and compassionate primary
care physician assistants. The Program is dedicated to
attracting and sustaining a quality student population that
includes, but is not limited to, promising Blacks and other
ethnically diverse minority students committed to the
provision of quality healthcare in the United States and
abroad.
Educational Philosophy:
The Program’s educational philosophy promotes excellence in
education by instilling in our graduates attributes of
medical competence, ethics, intellectual leadership
qualities, and professionalism to meet the demands of direct
patient care, community responsiveness and professional
growth.
Goals:
To recruit and educate
qualified and motivated Black and other ethnically diverse
minority students to assume leadership roles in the PA
profession.
To produce quality PAs,
especially Black and other ethnic minorities who are
competent and culturally sensitive practitioners, critical
thinkers, problem solvers, active life-long learners, and
effective communicators.
To recruit, retain, and
advance a cadre of faculty members who are competent in the
medical sciences, research and clinical practices deemed
essential for the training and education of PAs.
To maximize the level of
community service provided by the faculty, students, and
staff that promotes and addresses minority community issues
related to the promotion of health and wellness at local,
national, and international levels.
