Academic Reinforcement for Minority Students Program Overview The ARMS Summer Middle School Kids-In-Health Enrichment Program (6th, 7th, 8th grades) is designed to attract students who express an interest in the Health Professions Careers. The program’s goal is to encourage and inform students at an early age of careers in the Health Professions; in addition, assist young students in planning and preparing for secondary education. The Program will accept 80 students for this summer 2008; therefore, we hope that you register early. The Program has adopted the (NIH) Healthy Behavior Curriculum including the following; Doing Science: The Process of Scientific Inquiry; Chemicals, the Environment, and You; Explorations in Science and Human Health; Looking Good, Feeling Good: From the Inside Out (Exploring Bone, Muscle, and Skin), How Your Brain Understands What Your Ear Hears, The Brain: Our Sense of Self, The Science of Energy Balance: Calorie Intake and Physical Activity; and Understanding Alcohol: Investigations into Biology and Behavior. In addition, the curriculum will be integrated with Math and English classes, Health Fairs, Seminars, Workshops and Educational Field Trips. Students must exhibit leadership skills as well as mathematics/science and technology aptitude. Participants will be challenged to achieve greater accomplishments. We can be reached at www.howard.edu; navigate to the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and continue to the Center of Excellence/ARMS Kids-In-Health Middle School Program.
