Professional TutorialsThe primary goal of the tutorial services component of the Center of Excellence is to
provide a means to strengthen students’ comprehension and application of basic science concepts. Throughout the academic year, students will be advised, counseled and closely monitored to ensure early intervention strategies when academic problems are identified. The School of Pharmacy will
provide assistance to all students desiring or deem to be in need of
tutorial assistance, in a specific course or courses. The tutorial system
will utilize the skills and knowledge of upper class Pharmacy and Health
Sciences students who possess a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (B) or
above. Tutorial sessions will occur in small group settings and on an
individual basis, depending on the need of the student. Title VII & VIII Program, the Bureau of Health
Professions The Center of Excellence
(COE) Programs is established to assist designated health professions
schools and other public and non–profit or educational entities urn
developing programs of excellence and to strengthen the national capacity to
produce a culturally competent healthcare workforce whose diversity is
representative of the U.S. population. The Center of Excellence (COE) Program is designated to strengthen the national capacity to train under-represented minority (URM) students in the health professions. The program supports Center of Excellence at certain Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Center of Excellence and Native American Center of Excellence at health profession schools of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and other public and non–profit or Educational entities and graduate programs in mental or behavioral health that train a significant number of the targeted minority students. It also supports “Other” Minority Health Profession Education Centers of Excellence at schools having enrollments of under-represented minorities above the national average for such health professions. Tutoring Services The delivery process will be
the following methods: 1. Explanation of concepts Materials Any materials disseminated in tutorial sessions need prior approval by a COE administrator and will be duplicated as needed prior to the delivery to students receiving tutorial assistance.
