Applicants for federally supported financial aid programs must
be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Permanent residents will be required to submit evidence of this
status.
Students receiving assistance awarded by the Howard University
Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment and federal assistance
through programs under Title IV of the Higher Education Act
(Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Work-Study)
must maintain satisfactory academic programs in the courses
of study being pursued. Progress standards are defined in the
University’s Financial Aid Handbook.
There is a great demand for financial aid at Howard University.
Consequently, the earlier your application is submitted the
better your chances of receiving financial aid. All students
seeking financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) for each school year. Since University financial
aid is awarded on a “first come, first served” basis,
the FAFSA should be mailed as soon as possible after January
1st for the coming school year. The priority date for receipt
of the FAFSA is February 15th.
An offer of admission is not a prerequisite to applying
for financial aid. However, applicants must be admitted
to receive financial consideration. Late admission to the University
may result in an applicant being denied assistance due to insufficient
funds.
